Lupe Perez, 86, of Galesburg, died at 7:20 p.m. Monday, March 24, 2014 at Galesburg Cottage Hospital.

Lupe was born on December 12, 1927 in Galesburg, the son of Sostenes and Rufina (Delgado) Perez.  He married Jessie Leon on June 9, 1952 in St. Patrick’s Church, Galesburg.  Lupe is survived by his wife, Jessie of Galesburg; one son, Jack of Galesburg; two daughters, Linda Nolta and Teresa (Tom) Mackey both of Galesburg; five brothers, John (Norma) Perez of Oklahoma, Frank Perez of Galesburg, Jesse (Jovita) Perez of Galesburg, Angelo Perez of Galesburg, and Richard Perez of Springfield; and one sister, Helen (Dave) Rasso of East Moline.  He is also survived by six grandchildren, Simeon Nolta, Adrienne Heba, Anthony, Nolta, Brent Mackey, Valerie Tucker, and Mariah Mackey; and six great grandchildren, Addison Perez, Justin Mackey, Bentley Mackey, Jaxson Mackey, Ciara Tucker, and Braiden Tucker.  Lupe was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Mateo Perez; three sisters, Anita Carlson, Marie Perez, and Natalie Sandoval; one grandson, Adam Perez; and a son-in-law, Greg Nolta.

Lupe served in the US Air Force from 1946 to 1948.  Lupe worked for C.B.&Q. Railroad for ten years; Alton Box for over 20 years; and owned and operated John’s Taco Hideout from 1964 to 1994.  Lupe will always be remembered as a great story teller.  he loved to fish, but most of all, he loved to be surrounded by his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren.  Lupe was a member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church.
