Born on April 1, 1926 – Departed on March 19, 2013.

On March 19, 2013 the Lord called Mother Lula Holloway from labor to reward.

Mother Lula Holloway was born on April 1, 1926 in Orrville, Alabama to the late George and Rosie Lee Battle. She was the eighth of ten children. She married Mr. Fred Holloway in 1951 in Mobile, Alabama where they resided. Mr. Holloway predeceased her in 1983. Mother Holloway was the proud mother of seven. Her eldest son, Theodore Bradley predeceased her in 2009. Her heart was especially filled with love for them, and her children have countless testimonies of how her prayers blessed their lives. They share with others how strong-willed and determined their mother was to serve the Lord and accomplish goals in her life.

Mother Holloway was employed by and retired from Gayfers Department Store as a tenured seamstress assistant and staff member of the housekeeping department. She was also employed by Sarah Wilder and the late Ida Smith as a home manager. They called and wrote to her often after her retirement and formed a special life-long bond. In addition to formal employment, Mother Holloway was uniquely gifted in quilting and sewing, which she thoroughly enjoyed. Her quilts were admired and in demand by many.

Mother Holloway was a dedicated servant of the Lord since her youth. She was one of the first members of Fourth Street Church of God in Christ in Mobile. Mother Holloway humbly served there for over 34 years in many capacities, including Sunday School teacher, Pastor’s Aide, and Church Mother under the leadership of the late Rev. John Hunter. Her church family loved her dearly and continued to stay in contact with her after she relocated to White Plains, NY in 1989 to be closer to her family.

Upon her arrival to New York, she joined the Lonnie White Memorial Church of God in Christ in
White Plains under the pastor-ship of Rev. Jacob Stukes. After being led by the Lord, she became a beloved member of Allen Memorial Church of God in Christ in Mount Vernon, NY. Her Pastor,

Carlton C. Spruill, adored her and appointed her to serve as Assistant Church Mother. Mother Holloway was an exemplary model of an “old-time saint of God”. She was very passionate about sharing the good news of Jesus Christ and never ceased from spreading the Word of God through mailing hundreds of tracks and witnessing.

Mother Holloway was a giver during her entire life. She shared her wisdom with her children, grandchildren, neighbors, family and friends. Her heart was especially filled with love for children, and when able, blessed children individually during Christmas time and other holidays. She spent many years caring for foster children and nurturing and encouraging her grandchildren.

She leaves to cherish her memory two sons, Fred and Melvin Holloway of Los Angeles, CA; four daughters, Anne Holloway of Atlanta GA, Gloria Edwards of Essex, MD, Denise Holloway and Martha Belton of White Plains, NY; Daughter-in-Law, Lynda Bradley of Helendale, CA and God-daughter, Millicent Stewart of Greenburgh, NY; seven grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren and a host of wonderful nieces, nephews and other loving relatives and friends.
