Lucy Uzzi, neé Garaguso, long-time resident of New Milford, NJ and Palm Beach Gardens, FL, died peacefully on Sunday the 5th of June at her home in Palm Beach Gardens.

Born in 1925 in the Bronx, NY, to Victoria and Domenic Garaguso, she married Biagio Uzzi at Mount Carmel in 1943.

Lucy was extremely proud of her work as a lifelong leader for the Girl Scouts of the USA. Her Girl Scouts traveled to London, the Caribbean, and all over the United States for over thirty years. She had a reputation as a very inclusive leader, welcoming girls from all backgrounds into her troop. Mrs. Uzzi left her mark on hundreds of girls in Troop 87 who earned scores of badges, sang song after song, learned how to camp, and pledged to “be a sister to every Girl Scout.” She lived the Girl Scout promise:

On my honor, I will try:
To serve God and my country,
To help people at all times,
And to live by the Girl Scout Law.

Lucy was a leader in the local community, working with the New Milford Little League, Cub Scouts, Ascension Church and was one of the original founders of the New Milford Swim Club. She was the center of her beloved family, cooking every Sunday for whomever was around. The quintessential Italian mother, friends and family alike flocked to her home for her homemade pasta sauce and meatballs.

Lucy is predeceased by her husband, Biagio Uzzi. She is survived by her children; John & Mary Ann Uzzi, Raymond Uzzi and Roseann Fatigati, her grandchildren; Christopher, Jennifer, Laura, Michael, Herbert, Daniel, Alexis and John Michael; and her great-grandchildren; Mary Jane, Frederick, John Joseph, Thomas, Eshaan, Camden, and Lucy. She is also survived by her sister Teresa Chieco, sister-in-law Marie Uzzi, daughter-in-law Rena Uzzi, and son-in-law Michael Fatigati.
