Lucille Marian Martha Hubeny, age 85, of Rensselaer passed away at the Jasper County Hospital August 20, 2012.
Lucille was born in Beecher, Illinois on April 6, 1927. She was the daughter of the late Edward Segert and Martha (Luecke) Segert.
Lucille was a resident of Rensselaer and she lived her last year in George Ade Memorial Care Center Brook, IN.
Lucille was raised in Illinois where she attended both Beecher High School and Crete Monee High School. She received her GED in 1980. On February 18, 1950 in Cedar Lake, IN, Lucille married Henry B. Hubeny, who passed away March 13, 2008. They raised their family on a small farm in Roselawn, IN. She was a caring mother, homemaker, and was very active in her community. She was a member of the St. Augustine Catholic Church in Rensselaer where she was a Eucharistic Minister, Lector, and Commentator and was a member of the Christian Women.
Lucille was a 50-year member of St. Anne’s Study Club, a member of the Knights of Columbus Auxiliary, the Jasper County Hospital Auxiliary, the Newton County Resource Conservation and Development Council, Newton County Extension Homemakers, and was a 25-year Newton County 4-H volunteer.
Lucille was the first of two ladies in Newton County history to serve on the Newton County Council. Lucille enjoyed quilting, crocheting, sewing, crafts, and spending time with her family. She and Henry greatly enjoyed square dancing and traveling in all 50 of the United States.
Surviving are their children; Frank (Xiaoyan) Hubeny, Northbrook, IL; Henry (Mily) Hubeny, Woodhaven, MI; Mary (Bill) Kennedy, Carmel, IN; Carol (Scott Lockard, companion) Hubeny, Rensselaer, IN; and Carl (Patricia) Hubeny, Collierville, TN. Also surviving are ten grandchildren, Sophie and Isabel Hubeny, Ben Hubeny, Christopher, Jonathon and Nicholas Kennedy, Angie Stokes and Donna Stokes Hontz, Samantha Bustos-Hubeny and Carrie Hubeny; 3 great-grandchildren, Alyssa Pritchard, Aurora Kennedy and Aleena Travis; and two brothers, Lester (Louise) Segert, Crete, IL and Vern (Jeanne) Segert, Crown Point, IN.
Lucille was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one son Paul Hubeny, and one brother Clarence Segert.
