Lucille Irene (Lucy) Grabow was born into the “Greatest Generation” on May 17, 1926. Her parents, August H. P. Grabow and Irene G. Edsall, were German immigrants who worked hard and sacrificed greatly to raise their family during the “Depression.” Lucy, typical of “Heartland” folks in the 1930’s, was raised on a farm in Kingfisher, Oklahoma. Besides her farm chores, Lucy attended public school, was an exceptional student and graduated Valedictorian. School was her first love. Too young to serve during WWII, Lucy actively supported the troops by participating in the conservation and USO programs. At the end of the war, she married an Army B-17 Instructor Pilot Alfred H. Klingsick. After a brief stint in Topeka, Kansas, the couple returned to Oklahoma where she spent the next 30 years raising their son Dennis and daughter Denise while working. In the late 1970’s Lucy moved alone to new adventures and to finish her career as Office Manager at the Allergy Clinic of Oklahoma. In 1983 she married Robert V. Lane. Early on the couple traveled overseas and motorcycled around North America. After retirement they traveled by RV–sometimes for more than a month at a time. Bob passed in 2004. Lucy remained in Oklahoma until 2007 when she moved to Niceville to be close to her “best friend” daughter Denise.
Lucille Irene Grabow Klingsick Lane (Lucy Lane) was a remarkable person. She made friends easily. She was warm, quick to smile, witty and smart. She was charitable. She loved dogs and rescued many. She could have been a 1940’s glamour girl, an aircraft nose art model or a poster girl for factory workers during WWII. She loved men in uniform–any uniform! Her favorite attire was a tight sweater, shorts, scarf and broaches. Her hair was usually red. She was a quick flirt with the gents and chatty with the ladies. She was known by most as Mom.
An event to celebrate Mom’s life will be hosted by her daughter at LJ Schooners in Bluewater Bay on Sunday, June 13, 2021 from 3 PM to 6 PM. Dress is totally casual. Appetizers and drinks provided.
