Georgia Lucille Crawford, 89, of Jacksonville, IL died Thursday, September 16, 2010 at Passavant Area Hospital in Jacksonville.

She was born January 23, 1921 in Jacksonville, IL; the daughter of Sebastian B. and Mabel Lucille Bourn Kumle. She married J. Ivan Crawford on December 9, 1944 at Central Christian Church in Jacksonville, IL and he preceded her in death on November 9, 1974.

She is survived by three daughters, Sally Braner of Jacksonville (companion, Tom McNeely), Candy Dowland (husband, Ronald) of Greenfield, and Patty Bryant of Jacksonville; eight grandchildren, Mark Lane (wife, Kristen), Matt Braner, J. Michael Braner, Christopher Dowland (wife, April), Courtney Dowland (wife, Audrey), Callie Dowland (friend, Patrick Springman), Brett Bryant, and Cole Bryant; eight great grandchildren, Karlie Lane, Miranda, Alex, Bailey and Cooper Braner, and Jesse, Jaime, and Jayden Dowland; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Marc Bryant; a brother, S. Beaumont Kumle Jr.; and a sister, Phyllis June Kern.

Mrs. Crawford attended Alexander Grade School and graduated from Jacksonville High School with the Class of 1940. On June 18, 1938, she reigned as Pioneer Queen over the Northwest Territory Celebration held in Jacksonville. During WW II, she served as a volunteer nurse aide with the Red Cross. She also volunteered at Our Saviour Hospital for three years and served as a deputy sheriff for Morgan County from 1954-1958.

Devoted to farming, she managed her family farm for many years and was a member of the Cass-Morgan Farm Bureau. She was active in many farming circles and was personally featured in Newsweek and Prairie Farmer magazine articles. She was proud to have received several blue ribbons for baking at the Illinois State Fair.

A life-long member of Central Christian Church in Jacksonville, Lucille was baptized on April 21, 1935 at the church. She served many volunteer leadership roles within the church over many years. Long active in her community, Lucille organized the Friendly 12 Bunco Club in the Literberry area during 1970. She served many organizations as their president including Morgan County Home Extension, Jacksonville Junior Women’s Club, Literberry Women’s Club, and Federated Women’s Club of Jacksonville. She was also a life member of the Passavant Hospital Auxiliary.
