Our beloved Lucia Uribe, born on April 16th, 1951, lived a full and beautiful life. She has now entered fully into the presence of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on September 3rd, 2014.

Lucia was the fourth of ten children (Jorge Enrique – deceased, Laura Elena, Luis Alfredo, Jose Alberto, Maria Eugenia, Fernando, Jaime – deceased, Cesar Augosto – deceased, and Jose William) to her parents Jorge Enrique and Rosa Emilia (both deceased).

She grew up in Cali, Colombia and left to Miami when she was about 19 years old. Life was hard during that time, but her love for her children and family was what drove her to face her challenges head on.

Lucia was the mother to three children; Luz A. Atencio (married to Jesus Atencio), Louis H. Leon (married to Candace Sabrina Leon) and Elizabeth Miro (married to Dante Miro). She was a very proud grandmother to nine grandchildren: Vanessa, Jazmin, Soraya, Nicolas, Giselle, Matthew, Antonio, Chiara and Natasha.

As a single mother with 3 very young children, far away from family, a language barrier and limited resources, she was determined to raise her children and overcome her obstacles. With much determination and perseverance, Lucia reached many of her dreams and was able to provide for her children and family in ways she never dreamed of.

She will be most remembered for her fun loving personality and her devotion to her loved ones. Some of her most treasured pass times were; to be gathered with family, going to the beach, hanging out by the pool, playing chess and golf with her beloved husband Joe, who never left her side when she needed him the most. Her love for the Iacurto family, especially Nadia, Vickie, Sonia, their spouses and children also played a very important part in her life.

After being diagnosed with lung cancer in May, 2014, Lucia decided to fight. She refused to let cancer get her down and she always had a smile on her face when waiting to get her treatments. She lived her life always thinking of others first. We are thankful that she is now resting peacefully and we look forward to heaven when we can one day be reunited with her for eternity.

She is an inspiration to all who knew her, and she will be greatly missed.
