Louise W. Penington, 80, of Meredosia, IL, passed peacefully on Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2020.

Born on July 30, 1939, in Versailles, she was the third of three children of Roy and Mildred Saxer Wilson. She married Richard K. Penington on Dec. 29, 1963, in Versailles and he preceded her in death on Oct. 12, 2008.

She is survived by her brother, John Wilson of Versailles; sons Rick of Meredosia and Rob of Chicago; nephews Van Wilson of Mt. Sterling, Doug Wilson and Eric Wilson of Versailles, Brad Miller of North Carolina, and Darrell Eden of Burlington, IA; and nieces Susan Menner of Ballwin, MO and Jobie Wilson of Petersburg. She was preceded in death by her husband; sister Barbara Miller; and nephew David Corbit.

Louise graduated from Brown County High School in 1957 and Western Illinois University in 1961 with a BS in Elementary Education. She enjoyed teaching many Versailles and Meredosia area elementary students for over three decades. She then served as an instructor at Western Illinois Correctional Center in Mt. Sterling and Jacksonville Correctional Center, teaching basic education and co-creating and leading a Pre-start/Life Skills program that helped prepare inmates for life after prison. She also served on the board of the Meredosia-Chambersburg River Valley District Library.

Louise prized her immediate and extended family and was well liked in her community due to her years of dedicated teaching. She enjoyed shopping trips and annual summer vacations in her leisure time, and happily lent her efforts to friends and family in need.
