Louise M. Nicholson, 61, of Williamsport, passed over to be with her Redeemer, Jesus Christ, on April 27, 2011, at her home following a lengthy illness. Her brothers, sisters-in-law and cousin were with her at that time.

She was born in Williamsport, the daughter of William T. and Frances Rosser Nicholson. Louise graduated from Williamsport Area High School, and was an officer in the Future Teachers of America. Pursuing her goal of teaching, she earned a Bachelors Degree in Elementary Education from Bloomsburg State University, where she graduated with honors. She received a Masters Degree in Elementary Education from The Pennsylvania State University at University Park.

Her joy and calling was early childhood education. Her career in the Williamsport Area School District spanned thirty-five years. She taught at Hepburn-Lycoming Elementary School for ten years, and then at Jackson Elementary School (both the old and new buildings) for twenty-five years. She was a supporter of the Jackson School Library and donated many books to the summer reading program. Louise was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma Society of Teachers, and upon retirement enjoyed fellowship with her retired colleagues.

A lifetime member of Christ Episcopal Church, Williamsport, Louise was a chorister in the Saint Cecilia Girls Choir in her youth. She taught Sunday School for many years and helped organize the “Whitney Lions” Sunday School Basketball team. Later, she served in the Altar Guild and was a member of the Episcopal Church Women, serving as the chair of the United Thank Offering.

Her interests included reading, collecting family history, walking, biking, and quietly performing random acts of kindness.

Louise was a selfless and dedicated caregiver to her parents and family, and always put others before herself.

Surviving are her brothers, Walter A. (Patricia M.) Nicholson of Williamsport, Thomas J. Nicholson of Bethesda, MD, and William R. (Connie S.) of Midland MI; a nephew, Andrew S. Nicholson of Las Vegas, NV; an aunt, Carolyn Rosser of Williamsport; and cousins Carley Smith and Elizabeth Madsen of Williamsport; Marjorie Keilers of Los Alamos, NM, Reese Madsen of Hyattsville, MD, Evan Madsen of Chesapeake, VA, and Ann Rosser and Evan Rosser III of Arlington, VA.

Louise requested that any contributions be made to Christ Episcopal Church, 426 Mulberry Street, Williamsport, PA 17701 or to the “Adopt-A-Summer Reader” Program at the James V. Brown Library, 19 East Fourth Street, Williamsport, PA 17701.
