Louis John Tokar, 92, of Tempe, Arizona, passed away Friday, November 20, 2015 at Sunrise of Chandler care center in Chandler, Arizona.
A World War II Navy veteran and a member of “The Greatest Generation,” Louis was born on July 21, 1923 in Sioux City, Iowa, the son of John and Mary Tokarczyk. He graduated from Trinity High School in 1942. Shortly after graduation he joined the US Navy and served until the end of World War II. On August 30, 1947 he married Mary Jo Trafton, also of Sioux City. He graduated from Morningside College in 1952.
Louis was an owner and president of Advance Industries, a tower construction company in Sioux City Iowa, before he retired in 1977 and moved to Scottsdale, Arizona with his wife, Mary Jo. In 1998 he married Virginia Carey.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 49 years, Mary Jo Tokar; his wife of 10 years, Virginia Carey Tokar; and a sister, Cecelia Pierre.
Surviving are his children, Mary Lou Hess and her husband, Robert of Tempe, Arizona; Robert Tokar and his wife, Laura of Santa Fe, New Mexico; a sister, Helen Lambert of New Hope, Minn.; two grandchildren, Carolyn and Diana Hess, and numerous nieces and nephews.
