Louis Poluck Jr., 93 of Hutchinson, passed away on Saturday, February 25, 2012. He was born October 6, 1918 in Pennsylvania, the only son of the late Ludwick and Regina (Zork) Poluck, who came to the states from Poland. Louis moved to Hutchinson when he was only 4 years old, making him the longest camp resident. At 17, he started working with his Dad in the Carolina coal mines and worked three years from 1937-1941. A veteran of World War II, Louis was drafted in June 1941. He served four years and three months with the 4th Infantry Division, Battery “A” 29th Field Artillery Battalion. On June 6, 1944, D-Day, during the Allied Normandy invasion, he landed on Utah Beach, France. He was decorated with five stars and one arrowhead, serving in five major battles.
