Louis Palmer Foster, 91, of Jacksonville, IL died Wednesday, August 3, 2011 at Barton W. Stone Home in Jacksonville.
He was born May 13, 1920, in Morgan County, Illinois; the son of John Albert and Mary Alma Conlee Foster. He married Evelyn Armstrong in Chandlerville, IL. on June 18, 1950 and she survives.
He is also survived by two sons: Norman Louis (wife: Carol) of Salt Lake City, Utah, and Ralph Edward (wife: Teresa) of Springfield, IL; three grandchildren: Daniel Alexander Foster (wife: Frances) of Michigan, Sarah Elizabeth Foster of Tucson, AZ, and Ashley Ann McDaniel (husband: Jared) of San Jose, IL; and a great grandson, Solomon Foster.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers: Glen Eldon Foster who died in infancy and Ralph Conlee Foster who was killed in WWII.
Louis graduated from Jacksonville High School and Brown’s Business College. After joining the United States Army Air Corps in 1941, Louis served in WWII and completed his duties in 1945. Following his time in the Army Air Corps he worked for the government in Denver, CO.
After returning home he worked for Railway Express. In 1949 he went to work for the U.S. Postal Service as a mail carrier and retired in 1980 as Postmaster of the Literberry Post Office.
He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, where he served on the official board for many years. He was a 50 year member of the Masonic Lodge where he was a past master of Lodge #570 and a life member of Harmony Lodge #3. He is a 60 year member of the National Association of Letter Carriers and a life member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees.
