Louis McEnroe was born March 3, 1927, in Algona, Iowa, the son of Leo McEnroe and Luella Wagner. He grew up in Algona where he attended St. Cecelia Academy School. After graduating from High School he attended Loras College in Dubuque, where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in 1948. He also spent 1 year in Medical school at Iowa University before deciding that farming was his calling in life. On November 11, 1950, Louis was united in marriage to Mary Cain at St. Cecelia’s Catholic Church in Algona. After their marriage they lived in Algona. Louis began farming with his Uncle Mike McEnroe west of Algona. After 30 years in farming he began his 2nd career as a real estate broker and later on as the owner of Algona Realty. Louis retired from the real estate business in 2007. Louis enjoyed farming, fishing, reading and dancing to big band music. He loved politics. One of his biggest highlights was a luncheon at the White House during the Carter administration. Louis was a life long democrat. He was the chairmen of the Kossuth County Democratic Party for 10 years. He was active in St. Cecelia Parish as a lector and served on the Garrigan school board in the 1970’s. He was a member of the Kiwanis and the Knights of Columbus. Louis died Friday, May 2, 2014, at the Kossuth Regional Hospital. He was 87. Louis is survived by his wife of 64 years, Mary McEnroe of Algona; children, Tom and Melanie McEnroe of Atlanta, GA; Cathy McEnroe of Plandome, NY; Tim McEnroe of Algona; Mark and Darla McEnroe of Algona; 5 grandchildren, Cassie, Chelsea, Aubrey, Caitlyn, Christian and numerous nieces, nephews as well as other relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved son, Michael McEnroe.
