Louis A. Gamache, 74, of Windham, passed away at home on October 2, 2021 after a courageous 6 month battle with Pancreatic Cancer with his loving daughter/caregiver by his side, holding his hand. Lou was born on December 29, 1946 in Willimantic to the late Donald and Felixana Gamache. Lou was the third of eight children. He graduated from St. Mary’s School in Willimantic and Windham Tech in Willimantic where he studied in the Automotive Shop. Lou served in the U.S. Army from 1967 – 1970, stationed in Korea. He was employed in several places during his lifetime including Brand Rex in Willimantic, Pratt & Whitney in Rocky Hill and he worked in maintenance and grounds for both Windham High School in Willimantic and Orchard Hill Estates in Coventry from which he retired in 2008. Upon retirement, Lou travelled extensively in both the US and abroad with his senior friends. Lou was known as the trip photographer as he took over time thousands of photos. He was a member of the Franco American Civic and Social Club in Windham and a life member and Past Exalted Ruler of the Willimantic Elks BPOE 1311. Lou also enjoyed calling bingo at the Elks for many years.
Lou had a great sense of humor, a great laugh and smile. No matter who you talk to, people always say what a good, kind, caring, hardworking and funny man he was. To his family, Lou was a true family man who loved with his whole heart and was always there whenever needed. He was a giver and never expected anything in return.
Lou is survived by his daughter Susan Brault of Windham, grandson Christopher Marot and his wife Bridget Joyce and by his beautiful great-grandchildren, Desmond and Ruby Marot of Maine whom he loved and adored; siblings, Donald (Linda) Gamache of SC, Dennis Gamache of Willimantic, Patricia Turgeon of Mansfield, Diane Gamache of Mansfield, Joan (Acy) Stone of Willimantic and Alice Brault of Lebanon along with many nieces and nephews and his cousin Rita Neal of Enfield.
Lou was predeceased by his wife, Joyce (Setterberg) Gamache in 2002, brother Kenneth Gamache, niece Penny Stone and his father and mother-in-law Harold and Jennie (Kaczowski) Setterberg.
