Lora May Dorsey, 97, went to be with the Lord May 30, 2007.

 

Lora was born August 10, 1909 in Fort Morgan, CO, the daughter of Orlando and Maggie (Legate) Roark.  At three years of age, she moved with her family to St. Cloud, FL.  Her mother died when she was four.  She went to live with her Aunt Ada Brookshire near Paducah, KY until her father remarried five years later at which time she went to live in Detroit, MI.  There she met her future husband.  She was united in marriage to James Boyd (J.B.) Dorsey on May 29, 1931 in Dayton, OH.  They lived in MI until 1932, then moved to Lizmore, WV for fifteen years during which time they had 10 children.  In 1947, they moved to the Eaton, OH area and had two more children.  Her husband preceded her in death on July 18, 1991.  In 2001, she moved to Fort Walton Beach, FL where she lived with her daughter, Julia Kestner, until 2006 when she entered the Emerald Coast Center. 

 

Lora was a homemaker all her life.  She had a garden every year for 49 years and canned hundreds of quarts of food each year.  She also enjoyed quilting and sewing especially for children.  In her later years, she worked as a nurse’s aide at Good Samaritan Hospital in Dayton, OH and the Nursing Home in Eaton, OH.

 

 

She is survived by 9 children, Lois (Charles) Regi of Dry Run, PA, Joy (Raymond) Combs of Rutland, OH, Lincoln (Helen) Dorsey of Palm Coast, FL, Rand Dorsey of Tokyo, Japan, Marie (Louis) Graham of Nashville, TN, Julia (Donald) Kestner of Fort Walton Beach, FL, Jim(Cheryl) Dorsey of Naples, FL, Wilma (Jim) Koenig of West Alexandria, OH, Danny Dorsey of Dayton, OH; 24 grandchildren; 33 great grandchildren; 9 great-great grandchildren; 2 sisters, Ruth Porter and Mildred Feit of California.
