Lora Lieselotte Shearer, nee Mergner, 73, of O’Fallon, IL, born September 11, 1944 in Hof/Saale, Germany, passed away peacefully in her home on Thursday, December 28, 2017, with her family by her side. Lora worked as a commercial seamstress and as a retail sales associate.
Her hobbies included gardening, cross-stitching, and sewing. Lora was an avid animal lover and enjoyed spoiling her Beagles, Chloe and Cletus. Lora was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Lora was a faithful military spouse who followed her husband across the globe from Germany to Texas, Panama, Illinois, and Florida. She lit up any room she walked into and will always be remembered for her kind heart and spirit. Lora was preceded in death by her parents, Frederick and Babette Mergner; brothers, Helmut Mergner, and Heindrick Mergner.
Lora is survived by her loving husband, Charles “Chuck” E. Shearer of O’Fallon, IL; five children, Sonja (Kenny) Sliwa of Bartlett, IL, Evi (Arthur) Connors of Saugus, MA, Jenny (Stan) Rathjen of Leavenworth, KS, Daniel (Jamie) Shearer of Clarksville, TN, Jessica (Valdis) Shearer-Largent of Belleville, IL; two brothers-in-law, David Shearer of Mount Carmel, IL, Doug Shearer of New Salisbury, IN; nine grandchildren, Keith (Aing) Sliwa of Arlington, VA, Stephanie (Joseph) Freiwald of Austin, TX, Erin (Michael) Sitkowski of Saugus, MA, Jamie Connors of Saugus, MA, Christopher (Liz Desloge) Rathjen of Overland Park, KS, Katie Rathjen of Leavenworth, KS, Faith Shearer of Clarksville, TN, Presley Shearer of Clarksville, TN, Starlla Largent of Belleville, IL; two great-grandchildren, Gracie Connors of Saugus, MA, Christopher Connors of Saugus, MA; and beloved Beagle companion, Chloe Shearer.
