Lonnie (Buddy) Jackson, 84, retired U.S. Navy, of Harvest, originally from Huntsville, who traveled the world and back, passed away Sunday morning at Huntsville Hospital.

Mr. Jackson, a native of Huntsville was born in Merrimack Village. His parents, Lonnie & Verna Bradford Jackson preceded him in death. He was the first boy, from Alabama to live and attend school at Boys Town in Nebraska where he had the opportunity to be in the movie ‘Boys Town’ with Spencer Tracy.

Mr. Jackson while in the 10th grade was drafted into the U.S. Navy where he proudly served our country during WWII, The Korean War and Vietnam. Mr. Jackson was an avid basketball, softball player and bowler up until he was in his late 70’s. He loved getting with family, telling jokes, laughing and playing games including horseshoes, volleyball, and most recently the Wii system, which he did rather well at.

Mr. Jackson was also preceded in death by his loving wife, Mary Jackson and his sister Evelyn McAnally, both of Huntsville.

Mr. Jackson is survived by his 3 children and 2 grandchildren who he loved dearly. Daughter Susan Smallwood and husband Bill of Hazel Green; son Dean Jackson and wife Sherry of Hazel Green; daughter Lisa Glisson and husband Scott of Harvest. Grandchildren Mathew and Mary Katherine Jackson of Hazel Green. Mr. Jackson is survived by his sister Betty Grisewood of Decatur, Georgia and sister-in-laws’, Jean Cantrell and Janie Reid both of Huntsville. The list of nieces, nephews and friends is too long to note, but the love is endless. Mr. Jackson will be terribly missed by all.

A special thanks to Dr. Devi Misra for his years of overall care and a thanks to Dr. Philip Laney, too. To many of the staff at Huntsville Hospital, who have taken care of our Dad on his many stays at the hospital, his children send great love and appreciation for your service.
