Lois Lydia (Hintz) Church, 88, passed away Tuesday, December 20, 2016 at the Owl’s Nest nursing facility in Owosso. She was born to Gustav E. and Lovina G. (Meyer) Hintz on Feb 19, 1928 in Milwaukee, received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Milwaukee-Downer College (now Lawrence University) in 1950 graduating Cum Laude. She worked for the State of Michigan Biologics Laboratory as a Bacteriologist for 3 ½ years, where she met her future husband Richard E. Church who was working and attending Michigan State College under the G.I. Bill. Richard and Lois were married August 25, 1951 in Witnall Park Lutheran Church, Hales Corners, Wisconsin. Richard (Dick) passed away in June 2004, just short of 53 years of marriage.After the birth of their first child, Lois was a homemaker. She became involved in the community where she was a Jr. Girl Scout Leader and Girl Scout Neighborhood Chairman, AAUW, YMCA Board, Owosso Musical, various school PTO’s and PTA’s, Band Boosters, Chesaning CAER Center, Salvation Army Food Kitchen, and the Literacy Program. Lois served as a Memorial HealthCare Volunteer for over 35 years. She was a life-long person of faith, and an active member of Redeemer Lutheran Church. Lois was an avid reader who loved to cook, bake, sew, sing in the church choir and listen to classical music. She loved pets, especially cats. Family and friends were always welcome at her home and table, and there was always room for was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother Robert Hintz, and nephew William Hintz. She is survived by her four children, Adele (Richard) Horton, Arla (Thomas) Louks, Richard A. (Sandra) Church all of Owosso, and Rev. Andrea (Jonathan) Starn of Findlay, OH; nine grandchildren: Charissa, Beth and Edward Horton; Sergio, Orfeu and Nilo Louks; Rebecca and Ian Starn; three great-grandchildren: Riley and Morgan Horton, and Colton Louks. She is also survived by cousins Marjorie (William) Hansen, Paul Hintz Jr., nephew James (Veronica) Hintz, two sisters-in-law and many other relatives and friends who are like family.
