Lois Longman Meyers, 89, died peacefully March 24, 2017 at her home in Mansfield, CT. Born to Harry and Nellie Longman on May 30, 1927 in Spring Lake, NJ, Lois graduated from Manasquan High School, NJ in 1945. Lois met Edward William Meyers, a naval academy student, who won her heart. They were married in the traditional crossed swords ceremony on his graduation day from the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD on June 4, 1948. Lois then became a dedicated navy wife, setting up homes up and down the east coast from Keywest FL to Boston MA. Finally in 1954, Lois and Ed settled in Shrewsbury, NJ, to raise their three daughters.

In 1969 Lois and Ed found Block Island RI, and quickly decided to invest their savings to restore a Victorian home that had been abandoned for 40 years. This project consumed the next 35 years. It became a labor of love while they also enjoyed the islands unique lifestyle in the spring, summer and fall seasons. In the meantime, Lois setup two other mainland homes in upstate New York and Northern Virginia, as she supported her husband Ed’s move up the career ladder. Lois took these new venues as opportunities to pursue her college education. She studied Art History and Humanities at Nazareth College in Pittsford New York and after moving to Leesburg, Virginia, Lois earned an Associates’ Degree in Applied Science (Interior Design) from Northern Virginia Community College.

When Ed retired from Xerox in 1986, they bought a winter home on Sanibel Island, FL, where they benefited from the warm weather and beaches during the winter months, keeping themselves busy, beachcombing, swimming and playing tennis. They continued this lifestyle until 2005, when they decided to move to Connecticut to be closer to family.

Lois was preceded in death by her loving husband of 66 years who died in 2014, and leaves 3 daughters and their spouses: Lois Ellen Turner and Robert Turner of Columbia, CT, Lisa and Robert Carroll of Norfolk, VA; and youngest daughter, Mary Beth Meyers and Troy Smith of Key West, FL.   Lois also enjoyed 8 grandchildren: Robert Turner, Jennifer Turner Finley, David Turner, Stephen Turner, Brian Turner, Matthew Carroll, Laura Carroll Bayliss, and Michele Carroll, and 10 great-grandchildren: Robert Turner, Christian Turner, Claire Turner, Sarah Turner, Alex Turner, Kick Finley, Dash Finley, Zane Turner, McKinley Carroll and Robert Bayliss IV.  Special acknowledgement is given to Maia Lezhava and Vlad Gugeshashvili for their excellent loving care in her later years.
