Lois A. (Burton) Dickson Harrold, age 97, of Salem, died at 3:38 p.m. Tuesday, April 4, 2017 at the Essex of Salem II. She was born August 27, 1919, to the late Rupert and Mary (Eyster) Burton. She was reared by her grandparents, Ralda and Lola Eyster, and lived with them on the family dairy farm in Beloit for 43 years. She was a life-long environmentalist, and while farming, a member of the Mahoning County Farm Bureau and Goshen Grange. Protestant by faith, she lived in this area her entire life.

Mrs. Harrold was preceded in death by two husbands. She married Robert Dickson on January 26, 1941, (died January 8, 1978) and Donald Harrold on April 10, 1993 (died December 23, 1995). Her only sibling, Margaret Burton, also preceded her in 1938.

Mrs. Harrold graduated from Goshen High School. After the sale of the family farm, she studied nursing at Youngstown University. She was a nurse’s aide at local nursing homes as well as a compeer for Mental Health and Hospice of Youngstown. Additionally, she earned her Master Graphoanalyst Certificate from the International Graphoanalysis Society and performed forensic work. She was a volunteer for the Woman’s Christian Temperance Union (WCTU). Until the very end, she was an ardent and skilled practitioner of numerology.

Mrs. Harrold leaves two sons, Maurice (Eileen) Dickson of Woodstock, Maryland, and John (Sheila) Dickson of St. Ann, Missouri. Survivors also include four grandchildren, Kimberly Hedwall Laurie of Struthers, Ohio; Naomi (John) Walls of Florissant, Missouri, and great-grandchildren Carlin and Meredith; Andrew Dickson of St. Ann, Missouri, and great-granddaughter, Madison; and McConnell Dickson (Rose) of Reston, Virginia.
