Loanne Lockey Gunkel transitioned from her full, wonderful life on 3/2/21. The Lord called her to her just reward. She was born to Durward and Ruth Lockey on 6/10/48 in Hammond, Indiana. Her father was a high school principal and her mother a homemaker. Loanne was also a loving sister to Linda, devoted mother to her beautiful daughter, Lindsey, friend to her son in law, Jason, and loving wife and business partner to Edward, her husband of 46 years. She and Ed moved to Arizona in 1974 and never looked back. They loved living in the Sonoran Desert. Loanne was also the cherished grandmother to Xander 12 and Elizabeth 8.

Her family misses her so much – our hearts will never be the same. She was our superstar and leader – always positive, always encouraging, never judgmental, and always ready to help solve a problem. If you were fortunate enough to be loved by her, it was unconditional. She was an ally that you could count on for support, empathy, and counsel. Her heart was bigger than any problem. One of her strongest gifts and she had many, was her ability to connect with people – all types of people from all walks of life. When you talked to her, she listened and found a way to make you feel like your experience was shared by her and she truly related to what you were saying. The amazing part was how natural it came to her. There was no pretense or guile. She was just being herself. It was always amazing to watch how people reacted to her. She had this unique skill to put people at ease. We all learned from her.

In addition to her first priority of family, she had a long and successful business career in real estate as a trainer, sales associate, and property manager. She also served in the ultimate position of Realtor leadership as President of the Scottsdale Association of Realtors, the largest trade organization in Scottsdale. In addition to her work at SAR, she served on the Board of Directors for the Arizona Association of Realtors and was a member of several committees.

She loved music, mystery novels, trips to Sedona, and vacations in La Jolla.

She graduated from Ball State University and taught school prior to launching her real estate career in 1981. Somethings can’t be replaced because God only made one – that was Loanne. Her legacy was of the heart. Although Loanne has transitioned into her heavenly place she’s still alive in our hearts. This week we celebrate what would have been her 73rd birthday, surrounded by close family and friends.

Congratulations Loanne on a life well lived. We love you!
