Linda Rhodes, age 76 of Edgewater passed away peacefully at home on August 7th. Linda is survived by her brother, Ed Rhodes and his wife Kathleen of Cudjoe Key, Florida, and by nephews Ed Rhodes III of Orange, Connecticut and Douglas Rhodes of Chandler, Arizona.

Linda was an eternal optimist and despite surviving polio at age 5 and having a myriad of health problems in later life she remained cheerful and was always striving to get past the hurdles that life presented.  Among her many talents, she was known for her sports ability as a “dead eye”.  This trait led her to be a good bowler and she proudly carried the title of reigning croquet champion of Milford.

Linda was born in Milford, Connecticut and lived for most of her life in a Victorian home in Milford built by her great grandfather. She spent a study year in Scotland while in high school that introduced her to foreign travel. She graduated from Springfield College and studied for a doctorate in Russian history at Michigan State. Her familiarity with Russia and the Russian language landed her a job with a travel agency in New York City and was responsible for getting Walter Cronkite into and out of Russia in 1972. Ten years of travel experience in New York coupled with an entrepreneurial spirit led to the establishment of Winds of Adventure, a travel agency she co-owned with Kathy Wachter in Milford.

Linda moved to Edgewater in 2012 and thoroughly enjoyed the beach.

Linda will be missed by her small family and legions of friends.
