Linda Marie Kostus passed away peacefully at the age of 79 on Saturday, September 17, 2022 with her family by her side. The daughter of the late Wendell and Maxine (Swanson) Shepard, Linda was born October 9, 1942 in Flint, Michigan. She graduated from T.L. Handy High school in June of 1960 and attended Northeastern School of Commerce, where she completed the secretarial program in June of 1961. After graduation, she was hired as the bookkeeper at Household Finance, working there for several years.

On July 20, 1963, Linda married David G. Kostus.  They spent 56 years together until his passing on September 22, 2019.  Upon starting a family together, Linda dedicated herself to raising their children and caring for the home.  When the children were school aged, Linda began to devote her time to the community. She worked as the secretary for Kawkawlin Community Church, where her family attended.  After resigning in 1979, she began providing childcare in her home.  She did this for over 30 years, caring for many of the neighborhood’s children who grew to regard her as family. Once her daughter had children, Linda and David delighted in watching their three grandchildren together. In her spare time, she enjoyed talking on the phone, bowling, traveling, watching sports on TV, playing cards and bingo.

Linda is survived by her children, Scott (Josh) Kostus of Arizona and Jodie (John) Spangler of Brighton; three grandsons, Sean, Christian and Brendan Spangler; her sister Diane Jonas; sister-in-law, Shirley (David) Williams; nieces and nephews, Vickie (Roger) Nagy, Jeff (Sandy) Wilson, Mike (Lisa) Wilson, Robin (Pete) Del Vecchio, Julie (Art) Beffrey, Blaine (Kim) Kostus and Craig Kostus; godchildren, Jason Nagy and Toni Sue Meldrum and many beloved  great nieces, great nephews, and cousins.
