Linda L. Flynn, 71, of Jacksonville, died Monday, January 24, 2011, at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.
She was born January 27, 1939, in Port Byron, the daughter of William Maxwell and Alice O’Hara Yates. She married Leo S. Flynn on Sept. 26, 1959, in Rock Island and he survives.
She is also survived by seven children, David (Karen) Flynn and Pat Flynn (companion Shannon Smith), both of Jacksonville, Tom (Chris) Flynn of Springfield, Lori (Bill) Coonen of Girard, Tim (Valerie) Flynn of Jacksonville, Carrie (Duane) Sieren of Chatham, and Joe (Amanda) Flynn of Jacksonville; nineteen grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one brother, John (Dee) Yates of Bushnell; and one sister, Eileen (Terry) Nelson of Port Byron. She was preceded in death by one brother, Danny Yates.
Mrs. Flynn was a 1957 graduate of Riverdale High School in Port Byron and then attended Moline Junior College. Upon moving to Jacksonville, Linda worked for Passavant Area Hospital as a Surgical Technician. She then stayed at home to raise her family. Later, she began work for Pathway Services, retiring in May, 2009. Linda was a member of Church of Our Saviour. While raising her family, she volunteered at their schools and was also active in Girl Scouts, Brownies, Boy Scouts, Cub Scouts and 4-H. She enjoyed gardening, especially raising her strawberries.
