Linda K. Isaacs, 71, of Jacksonville, died Tuesday, March 10, 2015, at her home surrounded by family.
She was born Sept. 16, 1943, in Jacksonville, the daughter of Archer “Dean” and Wanda Maher Mayberry. She married John Isaacs on June 17, 1962, at Rev. Boston’s home in Jacksonville.
Mrs. Isaacs is survived by her husband and mother of Jacksonville; two daughters, Deirdre (Steven) Alexander of rural Roodhouse and Tamara (Manish) Sumant of Springfield; four grandchildren, Le (Danny Bailey) Alexander of La Grande, OR, Randelle (Jason Ashley) Ratliff of Pittsfield, Kristine Alexander of Roodhouse, and Priya Lyn Sumant of Springfield; one sister, Michele (Miguel) Quinones of Alexander; grandson-in-law, George Ratliff of Rushville; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her father and a grandson, Nicholas J. Alexander.
As her father was in the military, she started school in Tokyo, Japan. She lived in various states and countries, graduating from Stuttgart American High School in Ludwigsburg, Germany. A true Army brat. She then returned to the States with her maternal grandmother, Ann Moss, who had attended her graduation in Germany. She attended Illinois College’s Nursing School at Passavant Memorial Area Hospital. Meeting the love of her life, John Isaacs, she chose a life as his wife, because at the time nursing students were not allowed to be married. She shared her love of Germany and Japan with her children.
Facing an “empty nest”, she went to work for Jacksonville School District #117 as a cafeteria worker for 19 years. She was a member of Brooklyn United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday School, served on numerous committees, and was a Liturgist. She was also a leader of Explorer’s Bible Study for many years. In retirement, Linda travelled with her husband to many states and took several memorable cruises.
