  • Date Of Death: July 12, 2013

Lila Joyce (Drake) Morris was born September 1, 1940 to Alfred & Clara Moore. She passed away peacefully to be with her heavenly father on July 12, 2013 with children, grandchildren and family by her side. She was loved so very much by all who knew her, she was truly one of God’s angels on earth.

She lived most of her life in Grand Junction, Co. She graduated high school from Central High School. She loved music and her voice touched the hearts of many. She was in the choir in High School and was in the State Singing competition her senior year.

She came from a large family of 11 siblings that were as close as any family could be. While growing up they were about as poor, financially, as any family could be and yet as rich in love as any family could be. Thick or thin they leaned on each other and Moore kids left a legacy of love, kindness and devotion that touched the hearts of many.

Music and singing was her joy and she loved to sing for her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren and anyone that wanted to hear her sing. She was a natural with the guitar and piano and helped produce a gospel tape with some of her family and brethren that touched the hearts of many people.

She loved to play softball and was a natural at it … like so many other things she did. She could catch, pitch and swing that bat like nobody’s business. She went to and won the State championship one of the years she was playing softball. She managed to keep her sense of modesty and wore her shorts to her knees and her socks up to her knees … and thus coined the nicked name “knee high Drake”.

Her love for the Lord went without saying and anyone that knew her could see it. She labored in many of the gifts including the gift of song, prophecy and a mid-wife. She helped deliver many of God’s children into this world and was always quick to give God the praise.

Time would not permit to mention all the wonderful things that Lila did and precious memories the mere mention of her name stirs in our hearts. Whether it’s her wonderful cooking and the pancakes that she could make into the shape of any animal, her famous tea parties, times gathered around the piano with her, the times she would drop everything and come to the bedside of the sick, her willingness to lend an ear, her tactful advice, patient nature and even her being the family tax preparer. She was the backbone of the family that so many would lean on and her presence meant that everything would be alright.

She is survived by her loving husband Gordon Morris of Grand Junction Colorado, daughter Shannon (Donnie) Bean of Grand Junction Colorado, two sons Don (Stacey) Drake, Jr. of Sacramento California and Randall (Dava) Drake of Grand Junction Colorado, brothers Larry Moore of Grand Junction Colorado, Steve (Billie Jo) Moore Grand Junction Colorado, sisters Nelda Wright, Colleen Albright, Sharon Haynie, Jeanie Mae (Phil) Taulbee all of Grand Junction Colorado and 6 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her sister Cloise, brother Eddie, parents Alfred and Clara Moore, son Travis, brothers Billie Moore and Dale Moore, and her first husband Donald Drake.
