Lila passed away unexpectedly on January 23, 2016 at the age of 83. She was born April 21, 1932, in Kalamazoo, to parents Henry Dennis Waanders and Emma Katherine (Lauth) Waanders. She graduated from Central High School in 1950 and attended Western Michigan College.

Her first job was at Woolworths, where she was promoted from sales clerk to office worker. One of her duties was to pick the music that was sent from the store out onto Kalamazoo’s new sidewalk mall. Lila was then hired by the Upjohn Company to work in their accounting department and became a supervisor in Corporate Accounts Payable. In 1974 she received the William E. Upjohn award. She had spent 27 years with the company when she retired. Lila became a member of Kalamazoo’s North Park Reformed Church in her teens and continued to worship there throughout her life.

She sang in their choir, taught Sunday school and became their first female elder. Her faith was important to her and she was ready and eager to meet the Lord. Lila loved music and played violin in the Kalamazoo and St. Joseph Symphony Orchestras. She took care of her mother for many years after her father died. When caring for her at home became too difficult, she visited her daily.

Lila is survived by her sister, Marilyn (Robert) Krol of DeWitt, MI; nephew, Robert (Angelic) Krol of Spring Lake, MI and their children, Savannah (Samuel) Jezowski of Homer, MI, Jacob (Nicole) Krol of Muskegon, MI, and Eli Krol of St. Peters, MO; niece, Kathryn (Adam) Heinlein of Cambridge, WI and their children, Meredith, Emma, Forrest, Clayton, Autumn and Zachary Heinlein; nephew, Franklin (Kristen) Krol of DeWitt, MI and their children, Allen, William and Frank Krol; and several cousins.
