Lettie Ellen Harnew Hyink, 93, of Palos Park passed away Wednesday, October 19, 2005 at her residence in Peace Village. A lifelong resident of Palos Park, Lettie was born July 28, 1912 in Oak Lawn to the late William and Lettie Harnew. The Harnew School in Oak Lawn was named for her grandfather.

In 1936, Lettie married Franklin Hyink, whose grandfather, William Hyink, brought his family to Palos Park in 1898. Lettie and Franklin lived in the house (built in 1908 by Franklins father) on 87th Avenue for their entire married life. She taught in a one-room schoolhouse in Oak Forest, and at Mount Greenwood, Carver, and Cassell Elementary in the Chicago Public Schools.

After completing thirty-three years of teaching in 1977, Lettie spent many years volunteering at Palos Hospital. Lettie was preceded in death by one son, Franklin, who died in childhood, her husband of fifty years, Franklin Hyink, twinbrothers, William Harnew and wife Virginia, and Wilbert Harnew and wife Lillian.

Surviving is her son, Bruce Hyink and wife Barbara of Dallas, Texas, and two granddaughters, Anne Hyink and husband Bill Perry, and Cheryl Hyink, all of Colorado, one niece, Marilyn Jarzembowski of Lockport, Illinois, and one nephew, William Harnew of New Jersey. Also Lourdes Caybot, Lettie  faithful caregiver.
