LEROY ALLEN was born on July, 13, 1914 in Sarepta, Louisiana to Shellie Allen and Lillie Jackson Allen, who preceded him in death. Leroy enjoyed his childhood in Sarepta, where he completed the third grade.
Leroy later met the love of his life, the beautiful Myrtle Thompson. They were united in holy matrimony on April 2, 1938. Eventually Leroy and Myrtle moved to San Diego, California, where they made their home for over sixty years. Leroy worked as a contractor and was a member of the Laborer’s International Union of North America Local 89 in San Diego for over fifty-five years.
Leroy was a loving and devoted husband, father, brother, uncle and friend. He was known for always putting Myrtle the love of his life first. He enjoyed playing dominos. At any given time, he would tell you to shake up the dominos, the game is on. He loved dressing and always sported nice vehicles. He was the kind of person that would give you the shirt off of his back, but if you crossed him he would take more than that shirt back from you. His warm, yet outspoken nature will be forever missed.
On Saturday, October 19, 2013, at the age of ninety-nine, Leroy Allen was called from labor to eternal rest. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of sixty-nine years, Myrtle Allen; son, Joshua Allen; brothers, Floyd Allen and Shellie Allen, Jr., sisters, Bertha Riley, Betty Jones, Bessie Bureall, Jurlean Perry, Clotiel Harris, Gutherine Allen and Ruby Grisby.
He leaves to cherish his memory his surviving siblings, Billie Allen and his wife Lawana, Jonnie Lee Allen, Bobbie Walker, Luciell Caldwell, Helen Steward and Gloria Butler and her husband Thomas; and a host of nephews, nieces, relatives and friends who will mourn his passing, yet celebrate his life and legacy.
