Leonard W. Petty, age 85 passed away at OSU James Hospital May 22, 2023. He was born January 7, 1938, in Roaring River, NC to Charles Petty and Ina Petty. He was the youngest of six siblings and is preceded in death by wife Carolyn A. Petty who passed away recently on April 2, 2023, daughter Leslie Petty, his parents, and siblings Eva Cooper, Clinton Petty, Muriel Petty, Grant Petty and Charles Petty. Serving relatives are nephews Charles and Keith Petty and niece Tawana Holland.
Len was baptized at Poplar Springs Baptist Church Roaring River North NC. He was a graduate of Lincoln High School, Wilkesboro NC and attended North Carolina A&T College, Durham NC. He joined the United States Air Force in 1962 and received an honorable discharge in 1966. After his discharge from the Air Force, he worked for various freight trucking companies until he retired. Len joined Union Grove Baptist Church in 1978, he served as a Layman, a Trustee and sang in the Male Chorus.
