Mr. Leonard J. Brown
Leonard was born in Wilkes Barre, PA and lived in Newark then Kearny for 30 years before moving to Paramus 5 years ago.
He was a supervisor for Atlas Refinery in Newark for many years. He retired 27 years ago. Prior, he worked for Ozite in Newark in the same capacity.
He served in the U.S. Army as a Heavy Machine Gunner in the European Theater of Operations in France in Germany with Company H, 157th Infantry, 45th division. He was honorably discharged in 1945.
Mr. Brown was an avid Boston Red Sox’s fan and thoroughly enjoyed their World Series Championships in 2004 and 2007. He was the manager of the softball team sponsored by Joyce’s Tavern in Newark for several years. He loved music and playing harmonica often performing for both residents and staff at the Veterans Home.
He is survived by his daughter Patricia Scaduto, (Ben) and his grandson Anthony C. Kishko. He was the brother of Dorothy Glofka. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 61 years Josephine Benfante Brown formerly of Palermo Sicily and his son Kenneth J. Brown. He was also pre-deceased by his siblings Frank, Emmett, James, Joseph, Martin Jr., Paul, Thomas, Eugene and Gertrude Conwell.
