Leonard Gregg, age 85 of Algona, passed away on Tuesday, July 28, 2020, at Mercy One of North Iowa in Mason City. Leonard Ray Gregg, son of Paul and Irma (Brown) Gregg, was born on February 23, 1935 in Lake City, Iowa. He graduated from Rockwell City High School in 1953. Leonard enlisted in the United States Army and served from 1953-1955 with the 82nd Airborne. After being discharged from the Army, Leonard enrolled in Linotype School in Charles City, Iowa under the GI bill. Shirley was a part time secretary at the school while attending high school. They became engaged and were married on September 8, 1956. Leonard worked in the newspaper business for 17 years until 1973 when they moved to Algona where he worked as an insurance adjuster for a county mutual insurance company for 22 years. Leonard was a past President of Chips off the Old Block. He enjoyed traveling with Shirley to Arizona during the winter months. Leonard is survived by his wife of 63 years, Shirley; children, Mike Gregg of Tulsa, OK and Lisa Bunger of Humboldt. Also surviving are his grandchildren, Russ Bunger, Jon Bunger, Abby (Tom) Cunningham, Tyler Gregg, Alex Gregg, Cory Gregg and Tara Gregg and 2 great grandchildren, Colton and Charlotte Cunningham. He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Irma Gregg; father and mother-in-law, Dick and Gladys Nelson; son, Jeffrey Gregg in 2018; sister, Marianne Anderson and brother-in-laws, Skip Nelson and Earl Walters.
