Leonard Anthony Assante , age 91 of Yonkers NY passed from this earth on August 25, 2018. He was the son of Mary Madison and Anthony Assante born in Manhattan, oldest of eleven siblings preceded in death were Nora Lynch, William Assante, Carmela Kammerer, Tony Assante and Lourdes. Surviving him are Dorothy Wetzell, Barbara Jamieson, Delores Getchell. Mary Ellen Monahan and Michael Assante. He was blessed with eight grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
Leonard graduated from Samuel Gompers H.S. in the Bronx and went on to join the Navy during the waning years of WWII serving as an electrician on board the Midway as a plank owner and on the Mindoro. He served at one point with both his brothers Mike and Bill. He married Gladys Crawford in 1950 and had five children, Linda Strange, Teresa Arciola, Leonard, Cathy Palmieri and Susan Stuart.
He worked as a USPS clerk and retired from the post Office after approximately 37 years. His wife Gladys died in 1982. He married Ms Olive Homsany from Santa Ana California and spent 20 years in California before returning to Yonkers where he continued to enjoy travelling and spending time with family, shopping and doting on his two cats, Phoebe and Mc Goo. Leonard died from complications of pneumonia.
