Leona May Auvil, 87, of Clarksburg, WV, passed away on Saturday, June 24, 2017, at the Clarksburg Continuous Care Facility.
Leona was born May 19, 1930, in Green Valley, a daughter of the late Strauther and Bessie Mae (Bolyard) Auvil; granddaughter of the late William H. and Florence (Britton) Auvil, with whom she made her home.
Leona was a 1948 graduate of Rowlesburg High School and was a member of the Clarksburg Baptist Church for several years until she was unable to attend. Very often she read passages in the Bible more than any other book and lived by “Faith in God.” She said she read the Bible to see if she was doing anything wrong. Leona retired from Y.W.C.A. after 20 years as receptionist, waitress and helping in the kitchen when needed. She was also a volunteer with various organizations.
She is survived by one brother, Everett Auvil of Arthurdale; three sisters, Waneta Murray, Mary Feathers, both of Newburg, and Guiula Tenney of Richwood.
In addition to her parents and grandparents, she was preceded in death by her husband, George C. Auvil on October 1, 1985, whom she married May 2, 1949; four brothers, Howard, Richard, Donnie and Donald Auvil; three sisters, Betty Ruth and Elaine Auvil, Viola Stull.
