Leona Lanus, age 86 of Algona, passed away Monday, November 2, 2020 at the Good Samaritan Society in Algona. Leona Jean Lanus, the daughter of Noah and Elizabeth (Schmidt) Anliker, was born on April 22, 1934 near West Bend, Iowa. She graduated from Bradgate High School in 1952. On April 24, 1955 Leona was united in marriage with Donald Bernard Lanus in West Bend, Iowa. Leona worked as a Nurses Aid at Shepard’s Cottage in Burt and as a cook at the county home. She was a member of Grace Church in Algona. Leona loved being a mom and grandma. Hospitality was a trademark of hers as she loved to cook for her friends and family. She loved to feed people. Baking with her grandchildren and church kids was a favorite of hers. Leona loved to take her grandchildren fishing. Left to cherish Leona’s memory are her children, Cal (Janet) Lanus of Algona, Lori (Randy) Perrigo of Ankeny, Nancy (Jeff) Loeschen of Algona and Steve (Lorene) Lanus of Algona; ten grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; brother, Dan (Delores) Anliker of Mediapolis and sisters, Rachel (Dennis) Fuller of Humboldt and Esty (Mike) Steil of West Bend. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Don; a daughter, Elizabeth Lanus; brothers, Ray, Richard, Earl and Paul and sisters, Alice Helen, Hazel and Irene.
