Leona DeSilva Davis King Hotaling , 105
East Greenbush Leona DeSilva Davis King Hotaling , 105 , died Saturday, January 8, 2005 at Evergreen Commons in East Greenbush after a long illness.
Born in Brunswick, she was the daughter of the late William DeSilva and Elizabeth (Tate) DeSilva. and wife of the late Raymond J. Hotaling Sr., George A. King and Frank S.B. Davis.
She had resided in Troy many years, Dutch Village in Menands for 21 years and at the Episcopal Home in Troy since 1984 and attended Mechanicville High School and Albany Business College.
Mrs. Hotaling was employed as a secretary at a Mechanicville Bank and a secretary during World War I at the Watervliet Arsenal at which time the girls put on a musical show for General Pershing. She was also a receptionist in the business office of the Record Newspaper under editors, David Plum and Dwight Marvin for five years until 1941.
She was a member of the Ilium Literary Club, Board of Directors and former assistant secretary of the Visiting Nurses Association. She was a communicant of St. John’s Episcopal Church in Troy and its Women’s Guild and was in charge of the monthly altar services for preparation of communion, active in the Red Cross during World War II and did volunteer work in the physical therapy department in Memorial Hospital.
She is survived by two daughters, Carolyn Jane Davis Estabrooks of Troy and Shirley Ann Davis Connell of Troy; a step son, William E. Hotaling of Hanover, NH; 12 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; 3 great great grandchildren; 6 step grandchildren, 6 step great grandchildren and a step great great grandchild. She was predeceased by two brothers, Elroy and Karl W. DeSilva; a step son, Raymond J. Hotaling Jr. and two grandchildren.
