Leona C. Newman, age 78, of Wisconsin Rapids passed away December 19, 2021, peacefully surrounded by family.
Leona was born in Strongs Prairie, January 12, 1943, to Stella (Kent) and Stephen Oczachowski. She grew up in Wisconsin Rapids and graduated from Lincoln High School.
Leona met the love of her life, David (Chuck) Newman and they were married in 1963. Together they had six children. She was an amazing wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother and always put her family first. She loved nothing more than spending time with her family, had a way of making us all feel special and was always proud of us. In their earlier years, she enjoyed travel with Chuck and the kids and made many memories on the adventures they took. She enjoyed camping with friends and family. Leona was kind to everyone and liked when company popped in so she could coffee clutch and enjoy a good visit. She was the best fish fryer of any fresh fish caught by Chuck and his friends. Together they were happiest when surrounded by family, hosting a fish fry or a summer cookout.
She especially took pride in her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and she lit up whenever they visited. She taught us all to love unconditionally, to be kind and see the good in everyone, and to live life to its fullest. In recent years she taught us all a lesson in humility.
Leona is survived by her husband Chuck, her children; Wendy (Garth) Nystrom, Doug (Clalene) Newman, Sarah (Joe) Quinnell, Steven (Kelly) Newman, Eva (Bryon) Hansen, her grandchildren; Bradley Newman, Remington Nystrom, Ramsden (Kristen) Nystrom, Bailey (Gavin O’Neil) Nystrom, Clayton Newman, Colin (Meredith) Newman, Colby Newman, David (Aimee) Newman and Alli Newman, her great grandchildren; Avery Newman, Arabella Mortimer, Kyren Nystrom, R.J. Nystrom, Emri Nystrom, Klairabelle O’Neil and Paisley O’Neil, her brothers; Al (Audrey) Oczachowski, Ron (Denise) Oczachowski, and Dennis (Ozzie) Oczachowski, her sisters; Betty Timm, Cindy (Jeff) Michalski, and her sisters-in-laws; Joyce (Tom) Buss, Mavis Newman and Bonnie Newman.
She is preceded in death by son David, her parents; Stephen and Stella Oczachowski, her father and mother-in-laws, David and Pearl Newman and sister Wanda Stublaski. She is also preceded in death by many sister and brother in-laws.
Leona will be missed by everyone who knew her. She had a wonderful sense of humor and a very kind heart.
