Leon O. Newman Prospect – Deacon Leon O. Newman, 52, of Prospect, CT, passed away at home on Wednesday April 29, 2015. Chef Leon was born in Waterbury, CT on February 20, 1963, to Alberta Newman and the late Lynval Newman also of Waterbury, CT. He was educated in the Waterbury City School District and graduated from Wilby High School. Leon went on to achieve a Masters Degree in Hospitality/Business Administration from Johnson and Wales College in Providence, Rhode Island. His love for culinary lead him to pursue his passion at Jordan Caterers. Leon would first launch is own culinary cuisine experience under Comfort Kitchen Caterers. Chef Newman would later launch his “Culinary Master Creation” as the sole owner of Smokin Kettle BBQ House…”Life is The It Taste So Good!” He was most recently employed as the Food Director at Benchmark Village at East Farms, which became his second home and family. In April 1997 he was joined in holy matrimony to Zina (Phillips) Newman. To this union the family grew with three loving children Brandon K., Zyria Noel (Leon reversed), and Seth Gregory Newman.
