Leon H. Galske, 87, of Forestville, widow of Rita A. (Fournier) Galske, passed away on Sunday, March 14, 2010, after a short illness. He was born August 29, 1922 in Mamaroneck, NY, son of the late George and Clara (Moler) Galske. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran during World War II, having served on the USS Houston CA-30 “The Galloping Ghost of the Java Coast” sunk in the battle of the Sundra Strait on March 1, 1942 and was a P.O.W. until the end of the war. A resident of Forestville for over sixty years, Leon was a Lieutenant with the Bristol Police Department and retired in 1975. He was a longtime member of the Pequabuck Golf Club of Bristol, a member of the Bristol Retired Police Association and the Police Association of Connecticut. He is survived by his son, George Galske of Simsbury; his two daughters and sons-in-law, Sandra and John Stocki of Bristol and Monica and Timothy Brophy of Bristol; his sister, Florence Siemiatkaska of Bristol; his granddaughter, Tabitha Palkewicz of Fruitland, MD; several nieces and nephews.
