He died at 5:38 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2008, in St. Elizabeth Medical Center, Lafayette.

He was born Nov. 1, 1950, in Logansport, the son of Francis Wayne and Velma Mae Dietl Hershberger. He was married Feb. 2, 1996, in Logansport, to Lisa Schnurpel, who survives.

Bud was employed in sales and marketing at Hendrickson Auto Credit. A 1968 graduate of Logansport High School, he attended Indiana State University, where he played varsity baseball and he also attended IUPUI.

From 1972 until 1975, he played on the Logan Lancer’s football team. Bud served on the board of A.I.M. and the Logansport Baseball Association.

In 1982, he was selected as Outstanding Young Man in America.

He was a Chicago Cubs, Chicago Bears and Indiana University and Notre Dame football fan. He enjoyed all sports and his annual fishing trips to Canada.

Bud suffered from diabetes and heart disease for many years, and supported the American Diabetes Association and American Heart Association.

Preceding in death were two sisters, Sandra Kelley and Marcia Hershberger, and a nephew, Brad Kelley.
