Leo Wesley Gerke, age 24 of Freeport, IL, died Thursday, June 16, 2016.

He was born on May 11, 1992, to Scott Gerke and Michelle (Turner) Christianson. He graduated from Pearl City High School in the class of 2010. Also in 2010, he received his Eagle Scout Pin. Leo went on to attend Highland Community College where he graduated in 2012 with a degree in Wind Turbine Technology.

He was employed at Berner Food & Beverage as a maintenance technician. He was a hard worker and many would say working was his hobby, he was often referred to as a “financial genius.” He was a member of the Pearl City United Methodist Church and ABATE of Illinois. He was also a life member of the NRA.

Leo greatly enjoyed shooting and hanging out with his friends, especially their Monday morning BBQs. He loved spending time with his family and friends. He was known as a good friend and mentor to many. Quick-witted, fun to be around, smart, and a born leader are just a few ways to describe Leo. He will be remembered for his sense of humor and his funny stories, he always had a story to tell. Most of all he will be remembered as being the best son, brother, and uncle anyone could ask for.

He is survived by his father, Scott (Kerri) Gerke; mother, Michelle (Steve) Christianson; sisters, Aspen Gerke (Terry Tipp) and September (Perry) Chezem; step-sisters, Amanda Eiseman, April (Chad) Martin, and Brandi Christianson; step-brother, Corey Christianson; Grandparents, Allen & Virginia Turner and Garnet & Leon Obenchain; Godparents, Mike & Angie Riech; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins. He is preceded in death by his grandpa, Leo Gerke.
