The family of Leo Francis Gully is sad to announce his passing on May 2, 2021, after a lengthy illness with Parkinson’s disease.
Born March 2, 1933 in Carpenter, South Dakota to parents James W. and Margaret J. (Walsh) Gully. An only child, he graduated from Willow Lake High School in 1951.
He joined the Army to serve his country during the Korean Conflict. Leo returned to Watertown and continued his accounting career at International Harvester. He later graduated from Vocational Tech School in Watertown, South Dakota. He was a lifelong member of the American Legion Post 17.
Leo met his loving and supportive wife, Verda Loretta Pew in 1958 and seven months later they were married. They had four children: Mark, LaDonna, Valerie and James (Jim), who he was extremely proud of and who became the center of his life. In 1973, the family moved to Englewood, Colorado where he continued his accounting career for 22 years with the federal government.
Leo was a hard-working, honest, generous individual who loved his wife and family, cars, working in the garage, and tinkering in the office. He lead by example, teaching his children and grandchildren to work hard, put family first, and tell it like it is. He demonstrated the value of love and dedication to family, not to mention the value of any piece of scrap metal, flashlight, pencil and other unique collections. He will be missed and remembered by all those who came to know him. We will forever cherish the sweet memories he leaves behind.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Verda of 63 years, his four children Mark (Cheri Oldemeyer) Gully, Centennial Colorado, LaDonna (Jack Jancsy) of Swampscott Massachusetts, Valerie (Richard Saiz) of Denver, Colorado and James (Carrie Warren-Gully), Centennial Colorado. And grandchildren Amber Head (Simon), Cassandra Walker (Terrence), Brianna Melson (Garrett), Michaela, Emma, Graham, Colin, Baxter, Colton, and Harrison. He also leaves three great grandchildren: Torryn Grace, Charlotte Dean, and Brayden Leo.
Viewing hours will be from 4 to 7 on Thursday, May 6 at Drinkwine Family Mortuary, 999 W. Littleton Blvd.
