Leo B. Flory, 84, of South Bend, Indiana, passed away on Tuesday, February 14, 2006, in Miller’s Merry Manor, New Carlisle, Indiana.
Leo was born on October 2, 1921, in Tippecanoe, Indiana, to the late Frank and Berniece (Brocious) Flory.
Leo is survived by his sweet and loving wife Florence, who were united in marriage on November 9, 1940. Together, they raised four children, Dellmond Flory of Winchester, Indiana, Madeline (Bill) Vite of Niles, Michigan, Susan (Paul) Szymczak of Westville, Indiana and Kent (Deborah) Flory of Watertown, Tennessee. Also surviving are ten grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; a sister, Eldona Blue of Niles, Michigan; a brother, Arnold Flory of Tippecanoe, Indiana and several nieces and nephews. Preceding Dad in death were sisters, Margaret Stevens and Elsie Coleman, also two brothers, Frank, Jr. and Marion. Dad was instrumental in training up and teaching good work ethics to several young men in the area as they worked with him over the years. Alex Szymanowski was one who received this special benefit when his father died at an early age.
Dad and Mom owned and operated Flory Farms. They raised many specialty crops and U-Pick Strawberries. Dad was a trapper for many years, an avid antique collector, a scrap iron dealer and loved to tell jokes. He enjoyed flea markets, steam shows, and family activities.
Dad was a member of the Farm Bureau, Lions Club, Lydick United Methodist Church and had a lifetime membership with the F.O.P. #36.
We are all very grateful for the wonderful care Dad received from the nurses and help at Millers Merry Manor. Dad saw the need, as he neared the end of his life to trust Jesus as his Savior. We all look forward to that great Heavenly reunion.
