Lenus “Joe” W.Elsey, 84, Anderson, passed away November 8, 2009 at his residence after a short illness. He was born June 7, 1925 in Yale, Oklahoma, to Frank and Flora Welch Elsey. Joe married Phyllis Whiteman Argabright on October 14, 1984. Joe proudly served his country in the Navy during World War II.

He was also very proud that during his service he was at D-Day. Joe said that he would have loved to make a career with the Navy, but he was wounded and permanently lost his hearing and was unable to re-enlist. Joe worked for the Railroad, Postal Service and retired from Delco Remy Division of General Motors in 1990.

He is survived by his loving wife of 25 years, Phyllis. Also surviving are his stepchildren, Nancy & Randy Koons of North Vernon, Judy & Guy Barnett of Gainesville, Florida, Jodi & Steve Shetter of Corydon, Dave & Sherry Argabright of Fishers, Polly & Junior Wheeler of Greensburg, James Burton of Independence, Kansas, Charles Burton of Manhattan, Kansas, Keith Burton of Buehl, Idaho, Phil Beeson of Buehl, Idaho and Edythe James of Fountain Hills, Arizona. Joe also had numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was survived by in-laws, Marilow Walford, Linda Kendall, Sharon Morrow, Jerry Whiteman and Phil Whiteman. He is also survived by special friend, Matt Chambers and his devoted and faithful dog, Lillie. Joe was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Edythe Beeson Elsey and brothers, George, Glenn, Billie and Loren Elsey. Robert D.
