Leland G. Scanlan, age 87 passed away on Sunday, March 13, 2022 at Aspirus Riverview Hospital in Wisconsin Rapids.

Leland was born on September 17, 1934 in Almond, Wisconsin to Mac and Dora (Sparks) Scanlan. He graduated from Lincoln High School in 1952. He proudly served in the United States Coast Guard from 1956-1962. He married Virginia Wilson on April 13, 1957. They were blessed with 49 years of marriage until her passing on October 10, 2006.

Leland worked for Consolidated Papers, Inc. as an instrument technician for 43 years until retiring in 1994.

Leland was a member of the Central Wisconsin Country Music Association and was the lead guitarist in many country bands and was a mandolin player in some bluegrass bands. In his spare time “Skip” was an avid pool player for many years. He also was a member of the Port Edwards Lions Club.

Leland is survived by his children: Barbara (Troy) Scanlan of Wisconsin Rapids and Roger (Terry) Scanlan of Lakeland, Florida; grandchild: Bradley Christy of Sun Prairie, Wisconsin.

He is preceded in death by his parents, wife, siblings and one granddaughter.

The family would like to thank the St. Croix Hospice for their in-home care. Special thanks to his many in-home caretakers especially Roxy and Vickie for taking extra special care in helping Leland remain in his home.
