Leeona Pennington Tackett, age 85, of Big Brushy Road, Morehead, passed away Friday, October 2, 2020, at her home surrounded by her loving family.
Born August 10, 1935, in Elliott County, she was a daughter of the late Charlie and Alta Fraley Pennington.
Leeona’s husband of 61 years, Vernon Webster Tackett, whom she married August 10, 1954, preceded her in death on June 13, 2015. She was the love of his life.
She was also preceded in death by three brothers, Randolph, Ronnie, and Glenn Pennington, and seven sisters, Dorothy DeHart, Lurene Ison, Pearl Black, Ann Anderson, Gemina Pennington, Nadine Downing, and Elizabeth Buttry.
Leeona is survived by her loving daughter, Renita Jackson; two very special granddaughters, Amanda Ball and Alexandra Jackson; adopted daughter/niece, Michelle Pennington Hatton; adopted granddaughters/great nieces, Madison and Reagan Hatton, all of Morehead; two sisters, Laura Pennington and Margery Griffith, both of Fairborn, Ohio; countless nieces and nephews; and other extended family members.
She was hostess and waitress for several years in Fairborn, Ohio before moving back to Morehead in 1986. She was also a retired bus monitor for the Rowan County School System.
Leeona loved going to play bingo and seeing all her friends.
