Lech E. Borysiak, 84, of Juday Lake Drive N in South Bend, IN, passed away at 6:40pm Wednesday, October 5, 2005 at Memorial Hospital in South Bend, due to a complication related to cancer.

He was born on August 11, 1921 to the late Francizek and Stanistawa (Kubacka) Borysiak in Poznan, Poland. Lech has lived in South Bend since August 1950, coming from Munich, Germany. Along with his parents; one sister, Zosia; and two brothers, Zygmunt and Francizek also preceded him in death.

Mr. Borysiak retired in 1983 as the owner/operator of L & M Contract Interiors.

On May 8, 1948, he married the former Marion K. Geigl in Germany. She died on April 9, 1995.

He is survived by his daughter, Sabrina (husband Jeff) French of Granger, IN; his son, Ralph A. (wife Judy) Borysiak of South Bend, IN; five grandchildren, Suzanne Borysiak of South Bend, IN; Charles (wife Tara) Borysiak of Atlanta, GA; Nicholas French of Fort Wayne, IN; Adam French of Niles, MI; Haley French of Granger, IN; two great grandchildren, Anna Borysiak and Mya Borysiak, both of Atlanta, GA; and by a special friend, Carolyn Pritchard of Indianapolis, IN.

When Lech was 15 years old he was the leader of the Polish Boy Scouts, won a National writing contest, and by age 18 he was feared by invaders as a national resistance leader in Poland, and was imprisoned by the Soviets from September 1939 until March 1940, and by Nazi Germany from April 1940 until April 29, 1945. He was liberated from concentration camp Dachau by the U.S. 3rd Army. He received his Masters Degree from Heidelberg University in Germany in 1950. He was a former president and member of the Achievement Forum; served on the board of directors of the Snite Museum (Notre Dame); member of Potawatomi Kiwanis Club, and other professional organizations.
