LCDR William Lewis Triemer, USN (Ret.), age 85, beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, died peacefully in Pensacola, Florida on Thursday, January 2nd, 2020 following complications of a recent fall. He was surrounded by his wife, two of his sons, and two of his daughters-in-law in his final hours. He is survived by his wife, Glenda Ann Stangland Triemer, his four sons, David (Tavye) Triemer, Kirk (Deana) Triemer, Andrew (Helen) Triemer, and Michael Triemer, as well as nine grandchildren, Courtney (Jim) Darling, Stephen (Charlene) Triemer, Matthew Triemer, Chris Triemer, Jared Triemer, Jeffrey Triemer, Ethan Triemer, Jason Triemer, Ashley Triemer and one great grandchild, Molly Darling. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lewis and Margaret Triemer of Webb City, Missouri, and a sister, Lena Triemer.
Bill was born in Emporia, Kansas on September 11, 1934 to Margaret Ann Alter Triemer and Lewis Ernst Triemer. His family moved several times as Lewis worked at lumber yards throughout Kansas before settling in Webb City, Missouri, when Bill was ten. Bill famously played offensive tackle for the Webb City High School Cardinals at 145 pounds! Bill was an aspiring artist even as an adolescent, leaving graffiti art on the walls of the family basement that were discovered years later by his sons.
Bill attended college at Kansas State Teachers College at Pittsburg, Kansas where he received his bachelor’s degree in education. It was there he met his future bride, Glenda Ann Stangland of Pittsburg, Kansas. They eloped in February 1957 shortly before Bill left for Officer Candidate School for the United States Navy in Newport, Rhode Island. Bill served in the Navy for 21 years, a career which carried him to several ports of call as an air intelligence officer and naval flight officer and moved his family to numerous duty stations across the country.
Bill was a quietly competent, gentle, and caring man.
