Layla Cartae Cunningham was born on March 29, 2002 to Shenika Poindexter and Cartez Cunningham. From birth, Layla graced the world with her presence and had a very outgoing and bubbly personality. Layla was unforgettable to everyone she met and crossed paths with. Layla made sure to make an impact and left an imprint everywhere she went.
Layla attended Washington Township Schools for her entire duration of her educational studies. Layla last attended and graduated from North Central High School on 5/26/2021. Layla loved school and enjoyed interacting with her teachers and her classmates. Additionally they became an extended family over time with the bond she created and established with them throughout her education.
The Chocolate Princess describes Layla to the fullest. Layla was royalty in every sense of the word. Layla was bright, with a gorgeous smile, and with an even more beautiful personality. Layla was witty and she loved her family, her friends, her fur baby Katie and her other babies. Layla enjoyed coloring and she never met a stranger. It was her strength to carry on that really inspired those around her. Layla loved to help others. Layla had a radiant smile that pulled you in instantly, and you had no choice but to smile back. When she asked “How are you?” You had no choice but to respond. Layla’s journey was full of undying love and with support from her village, there was no limit to Layla’s aspirations. She made anyone who came in contact with her a better.
Layla was called home peacefully on March 25, 2022 surrounded by family and friends at the young age of 19 years, 11 months, and 26 days.
