Our loving brother, son, uncle and friend passed away Tuesday, July 2, 2019 at the age of 51. The son of Thomas and Margaret Gillman, Lawrence was born March 3, 1968 in Bay City and has resided in the area most of his life. He graduated from John Glenn High School and later received a degree at Delta College. He was a veteran and served his country in the United States Navy as a damage control man. After leaving the Navy, Lawrence worked as a fire fighter at Dow Performance Silicones before joining the Bay City Fire Department. He was currently employed at the Bay City Fire Department for over 23 years and held the title of Captain.
He enjoyed kayaking, running, weightlifting, boating and would ride his pedal bike to work all year long. He could be seen jogging along the roadway no matter what the weather. He also loved walking his dog Nitro out on the beach every morning before taking his dog for a ride in his Jeep. He loved being in or near the ocean and took many vacations down to Florida during the cold Michigan winters. He was skilled at many things including building his own house, welding, auto repair and cutting trees.
Lawrence is survived by his parents, Thomas and Margaret Gillman; twin brother, Daniel Gillman; brothers, Steve Gillman and Thomas (Lisa) Gillman Jr.; sisters, Kathy (Tom) Groulx, Mary Beth (Bill) Blair and Stephanie (Aaron) Burgess; nieces and nephews, Tabitha (Brandon) Otto, Jacob, Meghan, Ali and Steve Gillman, Matthew Groulx, Alicia (Dan) Denman, Zack (Allison) Groulx, Monica (Trent) Young, Candice and Kyle Blair, Nicholas and Gabriel Burgess; great nieces and nephews, Seth and Elijah Denman, Reed and Aiden Young and Rylee Groulx. Lawrence was preceded in death by his nephews, Chris Groulx and Eric Blair.
